D&D Character: GREG, CHIEF CHEFORC

This is GREG, CHIEF CHEFFORC. Image credit goes to S2uey

I had some fun with this guy. For anyone that read the article on Navg the Pained, Greg is his replacement. The campaign got reworked into a naval one and Navg didn’t quite fit in. Thus the lovely Greg was born. He is the ships cook, and he makes really tasty food. Everyone thinks the food is tasty, and those who don’t usually get profusely cursed at and sometimes receive worse.

Greg will be spending his days out on the open ocean cooking up dishes for the crew, and I’m hoping I’ll be able to use the Gourmand feat. to give effects other than temporary HP. Greg will also enjoy disembarking onto foreign islands and hunting down the local monster population for exotic ingredients whilst running around with a chef’s cleaver (hand axe) and a pot lid (shield), it should get interesting. Anyway here is his character sheet.

You dab at your face with a napkin, trying not to splutter, and wave a waiter over. You ask to speak to the chef, you have a few minor complaints about your meal. Though the presentation was splendid and the smell divine, the taste was… interesting, to say the least.

A burly orc wearing a singed and tattered chefs’ hat and an apron over a set of chain mail steps out from the kitchen and makes his way towards you. You’re regretting your decision to eat here more and more.

“GREG HEARS YOU HAVE COMPLAINT ABOUT FOOD. GREG WILL FIX THIS PROBLEM.” Your hair parts as spit spatters your face. The orc slams his fist on the table before continuing. “WHAT IS PROBLEM.”

“Well you see, the food looks fine but-”

“GREG DOES NOT HAVE TIME TO LISTEN TO NONSENSE. GREG ONLY USES THE MOST EXOTIC INGREDIENTS TO FLAVOUR FOOD. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THAT THEN I WILL TAKE YOUR TONGUE, PROBLEM SOLVED” The orc grins, obviously pleased with what he thinks to be an ingenious solution. Inwardly you groan, and prepare for what could be one of your worst evenings.

Greg grew up in an orc tribe that bordered a river. Fish and other river-life was a big part of the tribes diet, and Greg was in charge of gathering and preparing it. However, Greg wanted to do more than roast fish over a campfire, he wanted to add more flavour and present the food in a more appealing way. The tribe did not appreciate this, thinking it was a waste of resources.

Greg left his tribe after years of preparing food, and searched for somewhere that would appreciate his passion and talents. He made his way into a large town, somehow convincing/intimidating the guards into listening to his story. A higher up was called in to make a final decision and Greg was finally let into the settlement.

Greg improved his abilities here, although he was always bombarded with discrimination and biased critique. At one point he was ridiculed in public by Greg Kronffe, celebrity chef and culinary genius. He said that an orc could never become a true chef, as well as many more less polite insults.

Greg took this as a challenge, and abandoned his orcish name, adopting the name of his new rival. His entire purpose in life is to improve his skills, and prove that an orc really can become a master chef.

He made his way to the coast so that he could specialise in seafood, and eventually found himself serving on naval ships. He enjoys disembarking at new lands and slaying monsters and gathering questionable herbs and spices. Not everyone appreciates his experimental approach to food, but no one can deny that Greg possesses talent.
